Quarantine Quilt Challenge Week 9

This pretty block is Variable Star.  You can make it in two fabrics or do I like I did and add a second focal fabric.

If you are new to the Quarantine Quilt Challenge and Quilt Along you can find past directions in the links below:

There aren’t a lot of photos this week. I have been swamped and there aren’t any new techniques, so I went minimal.

Variable Star is a relatively simple block that utilizes quarter square triangles (qst’s).  You can read my directions for making them in Week 4.

Once they are made, be sure to spin the center seams to reduce the bulk in the center.

Once you have the quarter square triangle units assembled, lay the block out and put it together. It’s that easy. 🙂

Here is the finished Variable Star quilt block:

In Other News…

The Amazon Item of the Day is the Creative Grids Pineapple Trim Tool. I have had so many people ask me about my pineapple quilt and it was so easy! With this ruler, you can make a block in about an hour.

I haven’t had any finishes this week but I have made progress on several other projects. Primarily a flying geese UFO and my Farmer’s Wife Pony Club quilt. I finally figured out what I want to do for borders on that. Now I’m just waiting on the fabric to get here so that I can finish it and get it off to my long-armer.

Have a very blessed week and we’ll see you again next Friday. Only three more blocks to go! If you’re in the Texas Quilter’s Group, be sure to share your blocks with the rest of us. If you’re on Instagram, use the hashtags #quarantinequiltchallenge and/or #texasquilters.  And as always, if you have questions, reach out to Stephannie or me.

Blessings!

Melissa
